There are countless lash lengths to choose from for extensions that typically range from lengths 8-15. Depending on where you go, some will have more or less, but this range is pretty standard anywhere you go. Whether your new to extensions or you've been getting them done for years, length is a great way to experiment with different styles.

Typically Lash Lengths fall within the ranges of : Short, Medium, Long, and Very Long.

  • Shorter than 8 - 9 : Short (Very Natural, typically for inner corner lengths)

  • 10 - 12 : Medium (Natural Mascara Look)

  • 13 - 14 : Long (Long for a little extra oomph!)

  • 15 and Above : Very Long (Dramatic Glamazon)

The Lengths above and its descriptions are a general rule of thumb, but depending on your eyes, these lengths can look longer or shorter than it does on others with the same lengths. So, how do you know which one is best for you?

It comes down to 4 Factors!

1) Your personal preference - Are you a Natural, Dramatic, Flirty, Professional, etc person and what do you want your lashes to reflect?

2) Your natural lash's ability to support the weight - Some people love going super long and dramatic which is great but it’s important to take your natural lashes into consideration. Communicating with your technician about your natural lashes and its ability to go that extent is crucial to maintaining your natural lashes’s health so that you do not find damage in the long run... no one wants that!

3) Your Natural Lash Length - Our natural lashes are also a great indicator of what lengths would flatter us most. Those with naturally long lashes may find a length 12 or 13 for example to be the perfect natural length, but those with lashes that are shorter may feel 10 or 11 to be  ideal. It all depends on you and your natural lashes!

4) Eye Shape - Eyes come in all shapes and sizes and depending on them, lash lengths will look different on every eye. For example, some have more deep set eyes and may find they need to go for a longer length than someone with prominent eyes to get the same natural look, because the lashes need to go a further distance from root to surface to really show. This is often the case with hooded, mono lid, or deep set eyes. In contrast, those with large, prominent, or protruding eyes may find that going a little shorter can be more flattering. Refer to the chart below to find out your eye shape.

What is a Lash Curl and which is Best for me?

It's your first time getting lash extensions and you are beyond excited that the day has finally come! After looking at countless pictures online and all your friends who have lash extensions, you hope that your lashes look just as AMAZING! During your consultation with your technician, and you are faced with the question, "which curl would you like?"...

Now your stumped... What's a J, JC, B, C, D, and L Curl and which would look best on me?
Don't worry.. hopefully after reading this post, I will help clarify any questions you may have so that on the day of your appointment, you can relax and know your in good hands!

Break it Down!

What is a Curl?

In Lash Extensions, there are a number of curls to choose from. To put it simply, the letters are merely a representation of the depth of a curl. So, depending on which curl you choose, your extensions will appear more or less curved. Almost like when you curl your lashes with a lash curler, some lightly curl their lashes for a natural swoop, while others really work their curlers for maximum curls!

Types:

J Curl
This curl will elongate you natural lashes, but will not provide very much curl at all. This lash is ideal for those going for a more natural look. It's not often used because it tends to look too natural.

JC Curl
This curl has slightly more curl than J and is closest to our own natural lashes. Ideal for those going for more of a natural look and is a popular lash for this reason.

B Curl
This curl will give you the added lift while still staying fairly natural.

C Curl
This curl is perhaps the most popular in the sense that it provides the lift of a lash curler to open up the eyes.

D Curl
This curl adds more lift than C curl for added definition and sweep.

L Curl
This curl has a flattened base to better adhere to natural lashes and provide maximum lift.

Based on Eye Shapes

J, JC - Ideal for round or prominent eyes because the natural curls will balance out the eyes for better harmony. Also good for people wanted a very natural lash look.

B, C - These curls are a happy medium and work with most eyes.

C, D, L - Ideal for hooded, monolid, deep set eyes because the curls will open up your eyes to create a brighter, wide eyed look. This lash is also good for creating a more dramatic, defining look.

Bottom Line:

Lash extensions are really exciting but if it's your first time, it can be kind of daunting. Hopefully this post helps you understand the basics of lash curls and remember, lash extensions are essentially a form of makeup! Have fun, experiment with different styles, lengths, and curls, and if you find you don't love them, you can always switch things up at your next fill in! Also keep in mind, lash technicians are your best friends. Feel comfortable to sit down, discuss your needs, and have them recommend something for you if you are unsure. They have worked with hundreds of eye shapes and lashes in their years of experience and would happily suggest something that will have you leaving feeling amazing!

Stay beautiful everyone! Until next time!

We see extensions on everyone from the average person on social media to celebrities and we have to wonder, is lash extensions right for me? WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS AND IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?

There is a lot of buzz surrounding eyelash extensions in media today. We see extensions on everyone from the average person on social media to celebrities and we have to wonder, is lash extensions right for me? This post will break down what lash extensions are, its maintenance, and its ability to fit into your lifestyle to judge if it is the right choice for you.

Let's get started!

What are they?

Lash Extensions are synthetic or real hair fibers that are adhered individually or in multiple pieces to one's individual lashes. Most often, it is bonded with glue which is formulated for use around the eye area. Depending on your technician and where you get them done, lash extensions are applied to each eye in terms of pieces. Typically anything under 80pcs per eye will provide you with a more natural look, whereas 100pcs and above per eye will provide you with a fuller, more voluminous look. All this however is a general rule of thumb and is subject to change depending on your eye size. The smaller your eyes, the less pieces are needed to achieve a full look and vice versa for those with larger eyes.

How do I maintain them?

Typically lash extensions will last 5-6 weeks in its total life cycle. This means that as the weeks pass, your lash extensions will start to fall off as the glue wears with time. This is normal and by week 2 or 3, most people will need a "fill in" or "touch up" to fill in any gaps that may have formed in the time that's passed. However, we want to maintain the lashes for as long as possible to feel as though we are getting our money's worth... am I right? You can extend the life of your lashes in a couple ways.

1) No oil based products on your eyes because the emollients will break down the glue, thus causing your lash extensions to wear faster.

2) Don't get your lashes wet for the first 24 hours after getting them done so that the glue has time to fully set.

3) No steam for prolonged periods of time.

4) No rubbing, tugging, or picking at your extensions. This seems obvious, but as your lashes wear, you may find stragglers and you will feel an urge to "fix" it. Wait until your next appointment for a professional to remove those lashes without damaging your own.

5) When washing or removing makeup at the end of the day, no excessive rubbing or wiping. Going around the eye area with a cleanser and using a oil free makeup remover on a lint free swab is the best way to keep your lashes clean and hygienic while keeping your skin clear.

Are lash extensions the right fit for my lifestyle?

Lash extensions are a beautiful option for those who have always wanted long, full eyelashes but were never able to achieve them with mascara alone. Extensions are incredibly versatile and can be tailored to provide you with a very natural mascara look to a full on glam, dramatic look. Whatever style you choose, people love lash extensions for its convenience. It cuts down the time in getting ready in the morning and provides you with the freedom from wearing mascara and its annoying smudges. They also frame your eyes like no other and unlike strip lashes, are for the most part weightless and comfortable. But, with all the positive qualities that come with lash extensions, you must ask yourself if your willing to take the extra time to take care of them. If the maintenance sounds do-able and worth the benefits, I'd say lash extensions may be right for you. However, if you love the feeling of rubbing your eyes or you can't be bothered with the extra steps of removing your makeup at the end of the day, maybe lash extensions is something you may want to think further about. Also, if you are really into extreme sports such as surfing, where you will need to wipe the water from your eyes as you try to catch the next wave, lash extensions may again be something you may want to think further about because they require you to be a little more gentle.

Hopefully, you found this post helpful in answering any questions you may have had about lash extensions and whether it is the right option for you. Personally, I love them and I honestly can't imagine myself without lash extensions because of the ability to wake up and go in the morning. For me, the time saved in looking polished in no time is worth the maintenance. I took a break and went back to my lash curler and mascara that was hyped on the web for a bit to see if i'd like it. Having spent the extra time in the morning to do so to see that by mid-day my mascara was smudged along my under eyes was enough for me to know that lash extensions are for me. Make your best judgement and don't be afraid to trial and error because nothing is permanent and if you find you don't like them, you can simply take them off. :)
